Acne vulguris or simply acne is a type of skin disorder mainly during adolescence, though may present at any age. There is no well identified cause for acne to occur. According to the dermatologists and scientists, the primary cause is an increased androgen levels (oestrogen for female and progesterone for male) during puberty. Rising androgen levels make the oil glands beneath the skin grow; resulted into enlarged gland which produces more oil. Again excessive sebum can break down cellular walls of the pores, causing bacteria to grow. Some of the studies indicate that susceptibility to acne could also be genetic. Other than these; greasy cosmetics, medications containing androgen and lithium also cause acne to arrive. Hormone changes during pregnancy may cause acne either to develop for the first time, or to recur. A group of researcher from the Washington University School of Medicine found that everyone has acne causing bacteria living on their skin but there are good and bad strains of the bacteria which determines the frequency and severity of the disease. Even this group of scientists have successfully identified a strain of bacteria which can help in maintaining healthy skin.
