Hampi is famous worldwide as the famed city of Ruins. 2 hours above Hampi are Aihole and the world heritage sites of Pattadakal. Away from all the limelight lies the hidden heritage town of Lakkundi, about 11 km before Gadag town on the Hospet-Hubli highway after Koppal town. Bangalore is approximately 300 km away. Tourism hasn’t really arrived and that makes this a wonderful off beat destination that is bound to keep you spellbound.

Lakkundi has numerous ruined temples like Mallikarjuna, Virabhadra, Manikeshwara, Nanneshwara, Lakshminarayana, Someshwara, Nilakanteshwara and many more. Initially there were supposed to be 101 temples.

Lakkundi is a place of antiquarian interest with as many as 50 temples, 101 stepped wells (called Kalyani or Pushkarni) built from the eras of Chalukyas to Hoysalas. There is also a Jain Temple dedicated to Mahavira and the Brahma jinalaya near the Lakkundi Heritage center.
